A Jake Lowes goal gave Alnwick the lead at Lowick, but the home team took a share of the points thanks to an equaliser from Andrew Burgon.

Acklington picked up their first win of the season thanks to two goals by Eric McKevitt and single strikes by Aaron Redpath, Wayne Robinson, Richard Lemon and Dell Sawes.

A leading Northumberland hotel is preparing to host its first ever wedding fair.

The White Swan Hotel in Alnwick will showcase the best in wedding suppliers at the event on Sunday October 25.

Dresses will be modelled by the current Miss Sunderland and Miss Durham - as well as Miss Average, a Newcastle mother of four. The event will be held in the hotel's Titanic-themed ballroom.

Buzzard seriously injured in Alnwick shooting

A buzzardA bird of prey has suffered "serious" injuries after it was shot while out flying in Northumberland.

The young buzzard, which had hatched this year, was sprayed with pellets during the shooting in Alnwick.

Officers from the RSPB were called to Broome Wood, near Alnwick Moor, where they found the bird with a bullet hole through its left wing.

The young common buzzard also suffered injuries to its body.

Police are appealing for any information about the shooting, which happened on Wednesday, September 16.

Northumbria Healthcare is celebrating the first birthday of modern matrons continuing to drive up standards in all its hospitals across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

Over the past twelve months the 31 highly skilled matrons have been ensuring patients receive first-class nursing care.

They are present in the Trust's three general and seven community hospitals seven-days-a week, supporting ward staff, relatives and carers, making sure they receive the advice, assistance and support they need.

David Kirkland, recent winner of the Nottingham Robin Hood Half-Marathon, continued his good form with victory in yesterday's Norham 10k.

The Alnwick Harrier won the event for the third time.

Have a say on flood protection plans

People living in north Northumberland are being given the opportunity to have their say on future plans to protect the area from flooding.

It follows the launch of a three-month consultation exercise by Northumberland County Council, who have prepared a draft action plan.

Several areas have been affected by flooding twice in the past 12 months and residents are being urged to study the plan and give their views.

Alnwick-made pudding scoops national award

A homemade ginger sponge pudding made in a tiny farmhouse kitchen on the outskirts of Alnwick has scooped a top national award.

Farmer's wife Susan Green, who runs her puds business, The Proof of the Pudding, at Heckley High House, has picked up a two-star gold certificate for her sticky ginger pudding in this year's Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food.

It follows on from the gold she won previously for her steamed golden syrup sponge.

A Northumberland school which is battling to survive is turning to toddlers in its bid to stave off closure.

Eglingham First School in Northumberland organised a campaign entitled Be Happy, Be Here in a bid to attract new pupils.

At the time, the school had 18 children, but with no new blood arriving at the start of term, it now has only 14. Nine of those are set to leave next summer.

A toddlers' group, which meets at Eglingham every week, is now laying on extra activities in the hope that more parents will bring their children along, see them have fun and want to send them to school there when they are old enough.

School governor Ali Wrangham called the group's actions "fantastic". "We will support anything they want to do because they are the future," he said.

Northumberland is the UK's worst blackspot for deaths involving fork lift trucks, new figures have shown.

The county suffers more fork lift-related fatalities per head of its population than anywhere else in the country, according to statistics from the Fork Lift Truck Association.

The Berwick area was home to the most per capita deaths from fork lift truck accidents between 2001 and 2008.

Bedlington Terriers Reserves were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat at Rothbury in the North Northumberland League this weekend.

Four goals from Jackie Angus, three by Craig Sutton and single strikes by Stuart Foreman, Alan Brown, Michael Ord and Scott Rennison saw the home team net 11 times.

Berwick Town put in a better performance, but still lost out to Shaun McKay and Kyle Kennedy efforts for Shilbottle.
