Massive crowd at Denwick farm sale
More than 2,000 buyers flocked to the George F White farm sale in Northumberland this weekend.
The sale of primarily second-hand machinery, held at Waterside House Farm, Denwick near Alnwick was a fitting way to mark the retirement of tenant farmer George Philipson.

Pride of place were the two vintage Muir Hill Tractors, the 111 Series 3 tractor (T reg) 1978 sold for £9,200. The Series 2 tractor (P reg) 1976 sold for £5,700.
Buyers came from as far afield as Aberdeen, Wiltshire, County Antrim in Northern Ireland and County Kerry and County Wexford in Southern Ireland.
The machinery for sale was in the main from Waterside Farm and the key items sold were a pristine 20ft cut New Holland TF76 Electra Plus Combine 'W' Reg (2001) sold for £47,000 to a Wiltshire buyer and a self-propelled Bateman HiLo 2001 sprayer for £17,000 to a County Wexford buyer.
A John Deere 7800 K-reg tractor with front linkage and front PTO was sold for £15,000 to a buyer in County Antrim with the fitting dual wheels selling to the same buyer for a further £2,300 and a second John Deere was sold for £19,000 to a Scottish buyer.
Auctioneer Tom Oates said: "There was a phenomenal crowd and a huge amount of interest as well as several telephone bidders. Some excellent prices were achieved and this is further evidence that second- hand machinery is still in demand."
