A pick-up truck has been stolen from Northumberland after its keys were left inside.

The silver Mitsubishi L200 twin cab truck was stolen from Hipsburn Steadings, near Alnwick, between 2.30pm and 3.15pm on Monday.

The vehicle has a logo from the firm Martin Inkster Civil Engineering on the side and anyone with information as to its whereabouts is asked to contact police on (03456) 043 043 ext 69191.

Officers in the town are urging the public to take simple crime prevention steps following the incident.

Neighbourhood Inspector Sue Peart said: "Vehicle crime in Alnwick is down almost 25% compared to last year.

"That means that there has been 16 less victims of car crime in the area.

"This drop shows that people are getting the message that we need to make it as difficult for thieves as we can.

"To help us try and reduce car crime even further motorists can do their bit by always removing sat nav systems and their holders when leaving your car and by removing the watermark from the windscreen too.

"Don't leave mobile phones, iPods or other valuables on display in your car and use a security lock or other deterrent if possible.

"Never leave the keys in the ignition if you're leaving the car unattended - even if you are only leaving the scene for a short time."
