Thanks to a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Gardens are celebrating the social dances of the past decades, along with the memories of locals.

Ragroof Theatre presents 'Shall We Dance' on Friday and Saturday, September 12-13, where glamorous dancing couples will perform dances from the roaring '20s to the '50s.

Visitors can also enter the documentation booth, with displays of photographs and memorabilia, sound recordings and video footage collected from local people.

On the Saturday evening the garden will be transformed into an outdoor ballroom complete with bandstand and glitter ball, while Ragroof Theatre Company will transport the audience back through time to the sounds of Colin Haikney and his band.

The outdoor tea dance will also showcase demonstrations of the charleston, waltz, cha cha and tango.

Adult tickets cost £10 and children go free. Advance booking only -- call 01665 511350. No dance partner or experience is necessary.
