Alnwick Playhouse's packed itinerary continues throughout October with some singing, swing, film and fun.

Ruth Notman plays on Friday October 24 at 7.30pm. The acclaimed 19-year-old folk-singer and songwriter from Nottingham was a finalist in the 2006 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards.

Ruth, pictured left, has toured extensively across the UK and has a stunning debut album out, 'Threads', which combines traditional material and unique covers with her own beautifully crafted songs.

Tickets cost £14 (£13 concessions).

The next evening, Saturday October 25 at 7.30pm, Swing Italiano brings Ray Gelato and his Giants Orchestra to Alnwick.

Top sax player and showman Ray Gelato and his Giants, pictured middle, are famous for their stage shows full of sheer fun and excitement, evoking the relaxed style and showmanship of Italian 1950s American swing popularised by Ray's heroes Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Louis Prima.

Their concerts feature classic swing songs like 'Mona Lisa', 'Americano', 'When You're Smiling', 'Mack the Knife', 'Everybody Loves Somebody' and many other hits that defined the era.

They received a Jazz Award Nomination for BBC Radio 2 Artist of The Year 2005/6, and were the winner of Ronnie Scott's Award for Best Band 2007.

Tickets are £16.50, £15.50 concessions.

The Fox And The Child (Cert U) plays on Tuesday October 28 at 2pm. The film combines documentary footage with fiction, recounting the story of a magical, life-changing encounter between a wild fox and a young girl.

It portrays the story of their impossible friendship played out against a breathtaking mountainside wilderness.

An adult narrator (Kate Winslet) tells the tale as a memoir of her childhood.

Tickets are £5, £4.50 concessions.

The next film is Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day (PG) on the same day at 7.30pm. In London, 1939, destitute ex-governess Miss P (Frances McDormand) seeks employment with dizzy nightclub chanteuse Delysia LaFosse (Amy Adams), and suddenly finds herself plunged into a heady new world of couture, cocktails and sexy shenanigans.

Tickets are £5, £4.50 concessions.

A few tickets still remain for Calamity Jane, pictured right, starring Leah Bell and Full Company. On Wednesday October 29 at 7.30pm and Thursday October 30 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, Calamity Jane will provide a half term treat for all the family.

One of the most popular musicals of all time, Leah Bell gives a rip-roaring performance as Calamity and is ably supported by her fellow gunslingers, cow-punchers, cowgirls and cowboys all helping to make this a high energy, toe-tapping and thigh slapping production.

Tickets cost £14 (£13 concessions, £10 children).
