Tribute to popular Alnwick artist
Just under two weeks remain to see a tribute to one of Alnwick's best-loved artists.
Bolwell Andrews, also known as Peter, died in February last year after battling with lung disease.
At the time his friends decided to hold an exhibition with a representation of his many displays of photographic art across parts of Northumberland and Newcastle.
Good friend of 50 years Joan Littler, who with help and guidance decided on what to display, said: "I was rightly advised to try and represent the person that was Bolwell (Peter) as well as his work -- hence photographs, some chosen by friends and also words about Peter."
Bolwell, as he was known to the art world, began his work in the North East with a photographic commission for Newcastle Central Library in 1990. When he came to live in the region two years later, he found a suitably artistic home in Ratcheugh Crag Cottage, perched above Alnwick and overlooking the coast.
He produced exhibitions in many places including Bedes World, Woodhorn Church and Alnwick Playhouse.
Ms Littler initially aimed to cover all of these but was surprised by the breadth of his work as well as the number of favourites discovered en route.
Copies of many others are available to look at and copies down to A4 size of most works can be made available.
The exhibition 'Bolwell Andrews -- Retrospective' runs until September 27 at the Bondgate Gallery at the Playhouse. Admission is free.
Postcards and a limited number of posters can be obtained via donations for the Oncology Unit at Wansbeck Hospital.
